SHIFT Abingdon

Although it is great that the children are breaking up from school this week & we are no doubt all ready for the break we also know that the summer holidays can seem very long when looking after a child with special needs.

Although we are not having our usual SHIFT meetings in the holidays we have arranged 2 opportunities to get together & chat either over a meal or a drink.

These are on Thursday August 5th at the Dog House, Frilford Heath from 8pm

and

Monday August 23rd August at the Boundary House, Oxford Road, Abiingdon from 8pm

On Tuesday July 6th we will be joined at 1.30 by Ceri Collinswho is the regioal representative for the charity Brainwave.  Ceril will talk about what Brainwave does & how they may be able to help our chidlren.  More more information please look at www.brainwave.org.

Our next meeting is for coffee and chat on Tuesday June 8th at 1.30.

On Thursday May 20th at 9.00 we have a visit from SEN officer Kathryn Smith who will be talking about understandingIEPS and also answering our questions.

At that meeting we can also finalise numbers for our meal out at ASK in Abingdon on Wednesday May 26th at 8pm.

At our next meeting on Tuesday May 4th as well as coffee, cake & chat we will be making arrangements a meal out one evening in the next few weeks.

Our next meeting as on Thursday 22nd April from 9.0  – 10.30 with coffee, cake, chat & a chance to talk about our the Easter holidays went, the bits we really enjoyed & those harder times too!

The SHIFT meeting dates for the summer term are now on the future dates page.  These will be updated with details of any speakers when they are confirmed.

We will meet for coffee and chat on thursday 25th Febraury at 9.00.

On Tuesday March 9th at 1.30 we have a visit from Wendy Cliffe from the Parent Partnership.

Kathryn Smith one of the county’s sen officers will be joining on Tuesday February 9th at 1.30.  She will talk about the process of how a statement is put together & what happens after a statement.  Kathryn is looking forward to hearing the thoughts of us as parents of children with special needs.

In the meantime we meet on Thursday January 28th at 9.00 for coffee and chat.

Happy new year to all.  Our first SHIFT meeting of 2010 is on Tuesday 12th January at 1.30 when we can catch up over a cup of coffee & have the opportunity to talk about the Christmas holidays, the good times & the moments that were more challenging!
